The 43rd Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film and Video Festival announced that all five documentaries submitted from Taiwan have won its highest platinum Remi award amid intense competition among more than 4,500 participating documentaries.
“Tradition Meets Modernity,” depicts how music in Taiwan combines pluralistic culture with creativity and melds modernity with tradition to transform traditional indigenous folk songs and Taiwanese opera into hip rock and roll and techno music. For the spectacular results, it received the “ethnic/cultural” category platinum Remi award.
“Taiwan’s Innovation Gene,” winner of a platinum Remi award in the “industrial/technical” category, describes how Taiwan’s industries integrate creative design to blend art with technology for generating new business opportunities.
The platinum Remi winner in the “educational and instructional—adult” category, “Let’s Be Friends,” makes the case that Taiwan—where Chinese culture has been preserved in its most complete form, the people are hospitable and friendly, and the culture is rich and diverse—is the optimal place for foreigners to learn Chinese.
“Sharing Taiwan with the World” records the contributions made by the government and people of Taiwan to the international community using their experience and expertise in medicine, technology and humanitarian aid. The film won the “world peace and understanding” category platinum Remi award.
“The Story of Haruka (A flight of Great Distance—The Gray-Faced Buzzard),” produced by HiTechVision Productions in collaboration with the Kenting National Park Headquarters, describes how migratory gray-faced buzzards fly thousands of miles to that southern Taiwan locale in search a place to spawn the next generation. This documentary received a platinum Remi award in the “nature and wildlife” category.
